Welcome to Agua Azul

Mexico is the whitewater secret of Latin America. Uncrowded rivers, every class of rapids, warm water and hundreds of waterfalls make Mexico a paddling paradise.

Agua Azul is a small adventure travel company specializing in whitewater kayaking trips in Mexico. We can take you to roaring class IV, teach you the basics of kayaking on a gentle stream, or fill your photo albums with pictures of you flying off blue waterfalls.

Check out our trip descriptions to see which one is for you. We've been running whitewater trips in Mexico for over a decade. We've picked our favorite rivers, organized our operations and, over the years, developed the the savvy of getting on the river in Mexico. We supply the boats, shuttles, guides and meals. We get you to the river and make sure you get the most out of your river time.

October starts the whitewater season in the granite canyons of Oaxaca. From the white canyon of the Zimatan to the Tropical forests of Alamania the Oaxacan rivers have classic bedrock whitewater. Narrow gorges and tight technical drops are the signature of the Oaxaca rivers.

December is the start of the vertical season of the Santa Maria.  For the complete traverine experience, or creeking Mexi style you have to visit the Santa Maria Area, known locally as La Huasteca Potosina. The land of rivers and waterfalls.

Join us for a week of kayaking on the unspoiled rivers of Oaxaca.

Oaxaca trips feature full days pool-drop whitewater. The big question is: How do you say Oaxaca? Wa-ha'- ka. Wa like in water, ha like in haha,  ka like in come to Oaxaca! The coast of Oaxaca has some of the best whitewater in Mexico. Long complex rapids, tight bedrock canyons and a wilderness setting on the river. The rivers are clean and warm. The rapids weave between giant granite boulders. Each river has a distinct character.

This is a week of paddling great rapids in the perfect  tropical climate.  We stay in the small resort town of la Crucecita and head out to the river every morning. It's a nice combination of complete wilderness on the water and a quaint beach resort in the evenings. If you want to bring a non-kayaker on a trip this is the one.

The four quality runs for our trips are within easy striking distance of La Crucita: Hamacas, Alamania, Zimatan Canyon and Upper Zimatan. Plus the Rio Grande is just a little to the North and the Yuviaga only a little deeper in the sierra. Check the Calendar

Santa Maria Waterfalls

sm_tamul_mpercelThe Santa Maria Waterfall Experience

Looking for some waterfall time. This is the place. Take a week trip of flying off waterfalls, boofing travertine teacups and enjoying the rivers of La Huasteca Potosina. Blue rivers and tropical surroundings, the santa Maria Region is beautiful and exotic. For the complete creek experience you have to kayak travertine at least once in your kayak career.

Spend three vertical days running fun waterfalls and three days of classic whitewater Our Santa Maria adventures combines kayaking, relaxation and the rustic culture of Mexico.

The rivers of La Huasteca are as unique and beautiful as any place on earth. The water is warm and a striking turquoise-blue.sm_grito_polo2 Besides the conventional rock-garden rapids of the Santa Maria and Puente de Dios, we paddle a handful of travertine rivers. Travertine waterfalls come in every shape and size. From straight plunges to twisting ramps, travertine kayaking is addictive. The falls are usually straight forward, with thin curtains, lacking the usual thundering reversals.
